Except for the entrance room and Giratina's room, all rooms in this cave are randomly selected from one of two layout types: 1) a room with a pillar in the center, and 2) a room with rocks that may prevent the player from entering the doorways in the room. Both types of room always have a north, west, east, and south exit.
To reach Giratina's room, the player must find three rooms with pillars. After finding the third room, the next room entered will always be Giratina's room. If the player passes through 30 rooms and has not yet entered Giratina's room, the 31st room entered will return the player to the entrance, and they will have to try again. In all rooms except for the third pillar room, exiting the room through the door the player entered by will return them to the entrance.
After Giratina has been caught, returning to Giratina's room will reward the player with an item. The item depends on the number of rooms the player passed through before finding Giratina's room, with a minimum of three (the three pillar rooms). These items can be collected multiple times each time the player returns to Turnback Cave.
If the game is saved and reloaded in any of the random rooms, then all doors will lead to the entrance, preventing the player from using save reloading to manipulate the outcome.
