Stadium 2 Vs. Rival

After completing Round 1 or Round 2 of all Stadium cups and Gym Leader Castle, the Rival's lair appears. Selecting his lair allows the player to engage in a battle with him. Defeating his Round 1 team awards the player a Farfetch'd with Baton Pass and is the trigger to unlock Round 2, and defeating his Round 2 team awards the player a Gligar with Earthquake. Both Farfetch'd and Gligar can be transferred to a connected copy of Gold, Silver, or Crystal.

The player can choose to use either a team selected from rental Pokémon, a team consisting of Pokémon from a connected Game Boy game, or a mix of both. The rentals the player can select from are identical to those of the Prime Cup, but Mew and Celebi can never be rented, and Pikachu and Psyduck always have their Round 1 moves.

The player is allowed to use all six Pokémon in their team.
