Battle Pike

The Battle Pike is one of seven facilities located in the Battle Frontier, accessible only in Emerald. The Frontier Brain here is Lucy.

Modes

The Battle Pike only has one mode. Players can bring three Pokémon, and may engage in both Single and Double Battles over the course of the challenge.

Mechanics

Gimmick

To complete one 'pass' through the facility, the player must enter fourteen rooms, in pairs of two. The first room will contain three doors and a lady who advises that may be behind one of the doors. The second room, entered by choosing one of the three doors, will have a random event. Event types include: the player's Pokémon being healed or inflicted with a status condition, the player being forced to fight a Trainer, or the player moving through a room populated with wild Pokémon.

The player's Pokémon will only be healed if the player enters a room whose includes healing.

General

Mechanics that apply to every Facility are on the Battle Frontier page. Here are mechanics specific to the Battle Palace:

Frontier Brain

The Frontier Brain, Lucy, appears at the end of the 2nd pass and again at the end of the 10th. After defeating her the second time, she will appear every 4 passes. Her Pokémon have 16 IVs in her Silver Symbol battle and 31 in her Gold Symbol battle. Her teams are as follows:

Silver Symbol

Trainers and Pokémon

The list of Trainers that can be encountered is located here. The list of Trainer Pokémon that can be encountered is located here.

In other facilities, the Trainers that can be generated for a given round of 7 battles are dependent on which round of 7 the player is facing. In the Battle Pike, a round of 7 battles is functionally equivalent to a single pass through all fourteen rooms.

Rooms that give Single Battles and Double Battles will give Trainers from the current round's tier. Rooms that give Hard Single Battles will give Trainers from the next round's tier.

Battle Points

The player's received Battle Points will increment as shown in the table below. An additional 10 points are added to the below values every time the player faces and defeats Lucy. 15 is the maximum (though it becomes 25 if the player faces Lucy).

Room Types

The player must pass through fourteen rooms in order to clear a single pass of the Battle Pike. These rooms are divided into seven pairs of two. In the first room, there are three doors leading north out of the room, and two attendants. The first attendant will allow the player to save their progress or quit the challenge. The second will give the player a hint about what one of the three doors has in store.

The player must decide which of the three doors to enter, leading to the second room. The second room is selected from one of eight random rooms, unless the player is at the end of a pass featuring the Frontier Brain, in which case the pass's final room always contains the Frontier Brain.

The attendant who gives the player hints only has four unique lines of dialogue (and one for the Frontier Brain), meaning that each line of dialogue can hint at one of two possible rooms. Regardless of the hint that she gives, the two doors & their rooms that she does not mention will never contain either of the room types that her hint relates to. (For example, if she says that the left door has a 'wave of nostalgia' coming from it, then the middle and right doors will never contain the Status or Partial Heal rooms.)

Hint Room Description
"Is it... a Trainer? I sense the presence of people..." Full Heal All three of the player's Pokémon are fully healed.
Single Battle The player faces a Trainer in a Single Battle. The Trainer is drawn from the current round's tier of Trainers (see the Trainers and Pokémon section above).
"For some odd reason, I felt a wave of nostalgia coming from it..." Partial Heal One or two (randomly selected) of the player's Pokémon are fully healed. If the player has at least one Pokémon that is at full health and does not have a status condition, the game will never try to heal that Pokémon.
Status The player's Pokémon are inflicted with a random status. More details about this room are given below the table.
"I seem to have heard something... It may have been whispering..." No Event No event occurs.
Double Battle The player faces two Trainers in a Double Battle. Each Trainer has one Pokémon. The Trainers are drawn from the current round's tier of Trainers (see the Trainers and Pokémon section above).
"It seems to have the distinct aroma of Pokémon wafting around it..." Wild Pokémon The player must pass through a maze-like room, and can encounter wild Pokémon.
Hard Single Battle The player faces a Trainer in a Single Battle, and their Pokémon are healed afterward. The Trainer is drawn from the next round's tier of Trainers (see the Trainers and Pokémon section above).

The choice of room event is randomly generated; no room is ever more likely than any other room. However, some rooms may not be possible, depending on the player's situation:

Status Conditions

When entering a Status room, a Kirlia or Dusclops will attack the player's Pokémon with a status-inflicting move that can affect between one and three of the player's Pokémon. How many Pokémon are affected is dependent on how many rooms into the challenge the player is.

Some Pokémon may be prevented from obtaining the status condition, thanks to their type or ability. Pokémon that are fainted or already have a status condition will also not be affected. In the case of Pokémon that are immune due to type or Ability, the game will 'waste' an attempt to inflict status, but if the Pokémon is immune due to being fainted or having a different status condition, it will not 'waste' an attempt on them. The following table shows the chance of each status being selected and the types and/or abilities that will prevent the status.

The number of Pokémon affected by the status varies depending onto how many rooms the player has passed through so far. If they have passed through 5 or fewer total rooms, one Pokémon will be affected. If they have passed through 6 to 10 rooms, two Pokémon will be affected. If they have passed through 11 or more, all three Pokémon will be affected.

Status Chance Immune Type(s) Immune Ability(ies)
Poison (Toxic-style) 35% Poison, Steel Immunity
Freeze 25% Ice Magma Armor
Paralysis 20% Ground, Electric Limber
Sleep 10% N/A Insomnia, Vital Spirit
Burn 10% Fire Water Veil

Wild Pokémon

The game has a small pool of Pokémon that it chooses from when the player enters a Wild Pokémon room. Each Pokémon has an equal chance of being encountered. Each one has a pre-determined moveset, often featuring status-inflicting moves.

Every Pokémon has a "level value" that is used to determine its level. The value is used as follows:

  1. If the player is playing Level 50, subtract the level value from 50 to determine the level.
  2. If the player is playing Open Level, and their highest-level Pokémon is level 60 or higher, subtract the level value from the player's highest-level Pokémon's level to determine the level.
  3. If the player is playing Open Level, and their highest-level Pokémon is lower than 60, subtract the level value from 60 to determine the level.

If your lead Pokémon has Keen Eye or Intimidate, every time the game tries to generate a wild Pokémon 5 levels below your lead, there is a 50% chance it will fail to generate it.

The following tables give information about the possible wild Pokémon.
