Legends: Arceus Mass Outbreaks

Overview

Mass outbreaks are a phenomenon in which multiple Pokémon of a single species can appear in a spot in one of the wilderness areas, giving the player the chance to complete Pokédex tasks for them or hunt for shiny or Alpha Pokémon. Mass outbreaks can begin appearing in the wilderness areas as soon as the player takes Mission 5: A Request from Mai.

A massive mass outbreak is marked on the full overworld map by a circular icon with a Pokémon's image inside it. Looking at the map reveals a single spot within the area marked with the same icon, indicating the location of the outbreak.

In a mass outbreak, 10-15 specimens of the species shown in the icon will appear, and have a chance to be Shiny or Alpha. Usually, the Pokémon is found at similar levels to other Pokémon within the wilderness area. Only the species indicated by the icon can be found in the outbreak.

Massive mass outbreaks are a variation on mass outbreaks that were added in the Daybreak update. Documentation about those can be found here.

Generating an Outbreak

When the player returns to Jubilife Village from any wilderness area, all existing mass outbreaks and massive mass outbreaks are cleared, and new ones are generated. Each wilderness area is checked individually, and each area has a 20% chance to generate a normal mass outbreak and a 20% chance to generate a massive mass outbreak. To the best of my knowledge, all species are equally likely to appear in an outbreak; if you happen to be able to prove or disprove this, please let me know.

Pokémon Mechanics

Shiny Pokémon

Additional rolls for Shininess are granted to Pokémon within a mass outbreak. How many additional rolls (and the resulting rate of Shininess) are granted depends on if the Pokémon's research level in the Pokédex is 10 or perfect (all tasks completed), and if the player has the Shiny Charm. Rates are shown in the table below.

Alpha Pokémon

In all outbreaks, Pokémon have a 0.99% chance of being Alpha.

Crimson Mirelands

The Psyduck outbreak in Crimson Mirelands is listed in the game's data as having a minimum level of 24 and a maximum level of 22. Obviously, this doesn't make numerical sense, and I have no idea what this actually means for Psyduck outbreaks. For right now, I'm using the impossible level range for the table below, but if you have any further information, please contact me.
