Game Boy Rewards

The original Nintendo 64 release of this game is compatible with copies of the Game Boy games Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, and Pokémon from those games can be used in battles in Pokémon Stadium 1. Completing challenges can reward the player with bonuses that can be transferred back to a connected Game Boy game. This page shows the rewards that can be obtained.

The rerelease for Nintendo Switch cannot communicate with any copy of Red, Green, Blue, or Yellow, meaning these rewards either cannot be accessed or cannot be used.

Gym Leader Castle

Upon completion of the Gym Leader Castle, the player will be rewarded with a random Pokémon from the list below, which can be transferred into a connected game.

Hall of Fame

Completing the final division in any challenge cup, or defeating the Rival in the Gym Leader Castle, will cause the six Pokémon in the player's party to be registered in the Hall of Fame. Registering all 151 species of Pokémon in the Hall of Fame will reward the player with a special Psyduck, which can be transferred into a connected game.

150 of the 151 Pokémon are available as rental Pokémon in at least one challenge: the missing Pokémon is Mewtwo, who must come from a connected Game Boy game. Mew is only available as a rental for Round 2 of Prime Cup.

Surfing Pikachu

A Pikachu from a connected game can be taught Surf. To teach this move, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The player must complete Round 2 of the Master Ball division of the Prime Cup.
  2. The player must use a Pikachu on their team, and select the Pikachu as one of their three chosen Pokémon for the final battle of the tournament.
  3. All six Pokémon on the player's team must come from a connected Game Boy game, and the Pokémon cannot be part of a registered team.

If the player meets these conditions, they will be prompted to teach Pikachu Surf following the completion of the tournament.

This event is only accessible in non-Japanese releases of the game; Japanese players must use the equivalent event in Pokémon Stadium 0 to teach a Pikachu Surf.

In Yellow, a Surfing Pikachu can be used to play a minigame on Route 19.
