Speaking to Mr. Backlot in his office changes the Pokémon available in the Trophy Garden.
The book in Mr. Backlot's office contains a picture of Manaphy. In Platinum, examining this picture is required to mark Manaphy as "seen" in the Pokédex, which is required to obtain the National Pokédex.
The beds in the rooms in the west wing can be used to heal the player's Pokémon.
In Platinum, the player may speak to the maid near the door to the west wing to take the 5-Maid Knockout Exact-Turn Attack Challenge; information about this challenge is given below.

These trainers are battled as part of the 5-Maid Knockout Exact-Turn Attack Challenge, only available in Platinum. When the challenge is started, a random number between 5 and 9 is selected. The player must defeat all five Maids in the exact number of turns requested (that is, the player's cumulative number of turns taken for all five Maids must match the requested number) to win the challenge. If the player wins the challenge, their reward is that they can battle against Rich Boy Liam or Lady Celeste.
The challenge can be taken once per day.
