How Many Pokémon Can You Get in Legends: Arceus?

There are 242 Pokémon available in Legends: Arceus, all of which can be obtained in Legends: Arceus without trading (although Shaymin and Darkrai require save data for Sword/Shield and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, respectively). Because Legends: Arceus can communicate with Pokémon HOME, there are effectively two separate Pokédexes that the player can complete for the game:

  1. The in-game Pokédex, which will show all 242 Pokémon. In order to obtain the Shiny Charm from Cyllene in Galaxy Hall, only 238 (excluding Phione, Manaphy, Shaymin, and Darkrai) are required. The alternate forms of Sneasel, Vulpix, and Ninetales are not required to obtain the Shiny Charm, but are required to fully complete those Pokémon's Pokédex entries.
  2. The Pokémon HOME Pokédex for Legends: Arceus ("Hisui Pokédex" on the Games tab of the Pokédex view), which will show all 242 Pokémon. The alternate forms of Sneasel, Vulpix, and Ninetales are not required.

Any Pokémon captured in Legends: Arceus and transferred to Pokémon HOME will additionally count for the HOME National Pokédex.

Legends: Arceus can both transfer Pokémon to and receive Pokémon from Pokémon HOME, so long as the Pokémon is contained within the 242 Pokémon of this game's Hisui Pokédex. The game cannot receive Pokémon that have ever been in Legends: Z-A.

The Professor Oak challenge guides (there are different 'difficulty levels', depending on whether the player wants to complete research tasks) for Legends: Arceus can be found here, although I've made a shorter list of encounters below in case anything happens to the external guide. This doesn't contain information about maximizing research tasks.

Note that all Pokémon can be obtained without the need for the free Daybreak update. However, the addition of massive mass outbreaks in the Daybreak update makes it easier to get several species of Pokémon without needing to evolve them.
