Battle Bingo

Battle Bingo is a minigame that the player can play at Realgam Tower. This page contains information on each Battle Bingo card, as well as a method of clearing each card in 1-Panel mode.

Overview

In a game of Battle Bingo, the player will receive a bingo card with 16 panels on it, arranged in rows of four. The player will receive one Pokémon upon starting the game, and two Master Balls that can be used to capture additional Pokémon. A fourth Pokémon slot is available, though the player must get the Master Ball to use during the course of playing the card.

Every Pokémon, when obtained, has 2 Entry Points, or EP. One EP must be used to flip one of the sixteen panels. If the player runs out of EP at any time, they lose the game. EP can be gained by flipping all panels in a single row, column, or corner-to-corner diagonal. Two of the panels on the card will also give the player 1 EP and 2 EP. When EP is gained this way, it can be placed on any Pokémon, but the player cannot transfer EP between Pokémon.

Three of the panels on the board are marked with question marks. One will be the fourth Master Ball, and the other two will provide EP (1 and 2). The other 13 panels are all named for Pokémon types. Entering one of these panels will start a 1v1 Single Battle with the Pokémon whose EP was used to enter the panel, and a Pokémon matching the panel's type. The player must either defeat the Pokémon or use a Master Ball on it to clear the panel. If the player loses, they can continue playing the card, but must use another EP to enter the panel where they lost.

All panels will always have the same Pokémon or question mark bonus every time the card is played. When starting the card, the player can select any panel to start with, but can only flip over panels adjacent to any previously-flipped panel. In 1-Panel mode, the player can only select a panel adjacent to the most recently selected panel, meaning the player must 'snake' through the panels. If the player has no legal moves, the game will end.

Considerations

The Battle Bingo cards are generally built around the type chart. Most Pokémon (but not all!) have a strong, accurate attack matching their type (such as Flamethrower or Surf), and the idea is that most Pokémon can win 1v1 matchups against Pokémon weak to their strong STAB moves. The idea is generally to use a Pokémon whose attack is super-effective against the panel type to enter the panel. Although this is the general design philosophy behind the cards, it's possible to find exceptions to the "strong STAB move" rule, and cases where a Pokémon can actually win a 1v1 into a certain panel that it should be weak against (for example, Gengar wins against Quagsire since Quagsire has Earthquake and Gengar is immune). All Rock-type moves additionally have less than perfect accuracy, and many moves (like Poison-type and Water-type moves) have a chance of a secondary effect that may change the outcome.

Some guides for completing the cards can be found here and here.

Cards

The cards are divided into four categories: Novice, Regular, Expert, Extra, and Special. For the first four categories, all cards of the first category must be cleared to unlock cards of the next category. The Special category contains only the Bonsly card, which has to be obtained from a lady in ONBS after finding Bonsly at a Poké Spot.

The first time the player completes every card, they will receive an item reward. Additionally, every time the player completes a card, they will receive a Poké Coupon bonus. The bonus will be equivalent to the value shown on the card screen for 10 lines, plus a bonus for the player's remaining EP and/or Master Balls. After clearing all 10 cards apart from the Bonsly Card, the player will receive 5000 Poké Coupons and unlock 1-Panel mode.

After clearing a card, the panels on the card will be shuffled each subsequent time the player plays the card. This means it's not possible to create a single solution that is applicable to 1-Panel Mode, since panels will always be shuffled on that mode.
