The Battle Castle is one of five facilities located in the Battle Frontier, accessible in Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. The Frontier Brain here is Caitlin, who is accompanied by her butler Darach.
As with all Facilities, the Battle Castle has options for Single Battles, Double Battles, and Multi Battles. Multi Battles are conducted with a second player with their own copy of Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver.
The player can enter three Pokémon in Singles, three in Doubles, and two in Multi (with the other player providing another two).
The player will win Castle Points, or CP, for completing battles. Before every battle, the player may choose to spend CP to do things such as recover their Pokémon, view details about the opponents' Pokémon, level the opponents' Pokémon up or down, gain items for their Pokémon, or skip the following battle.
Items that are obtained on a Pokémon will be kept until either a) the player completes the current round of seven battles; b) the item is used, stolen by the opponent, or swapped with the opponent; or c) the player chooses to purchase a new item for their Pokémon, at which point the old item is replaced with the new one.
Mechanics that apply to every Facility are on the Battle Frontier page. Here are mechanics specific to the Battle Castle:
The Frontier Brain, Caitlin, will ask her butler Darach to battle in her place. Darach's team will always have the same three species, but the moveset of each species is randomly selected from two possible options that share the same held item, Nature, and stats. The order of his Pokémon is random as well. His Pokémon have 31 IVs in both battles. The gender and Ability of his Pokémon are random. His teams are as follows:

1-7 | 3 | 8 |
8-14 | 3 | 9 |

When the player begins a round, they will be given 10 Castle Points. They can spend CP to affect the upcoming battles, and will receive CP for completing battles. For as long as the player maintains an active streak, their CP count will reflect the cumulative amount the player has gained across the entire streak. If the player loses their streak, when they restart, they will be given the base 10 again.
CP can be spent for the following purposes (categories):
Some of these options are not available to the player immediately. The player also has the ability to choose to rank up one of the above categories (except for Pass), which will increase the options available to the player for that category. Once a category has been ranked up, the category will remain at that rank until the player loses their streak, at which point the ranks will all be reset to 1.
The purchasable options for each category are shown in the tables below.
Info Options can be purchased separately for each of the opponent's Pokémon. Ranking up costs 50 CP.
Option | Description | Cost | Rank |

The amount of CP the player receives after a battle is determined by their performance in the preceding battle. The factors that contribute are shown in the below table.
Criterion | CP |
---|---|
Number of Pokémon that are not fainted | Number x 3 |
Number of Pokémon with full HP | Number x 3 |
Number of Pokémon with over half HP (but not full) | Number x 2 |
Number of Pokémon with under half HP | Number x 1 |
Number of Pokémon with no status effects | Number x 1 |
5 or fewer total PP used in the battle | 8 |
6-10 PP used in the battle | 6 |
11-15 PP used in the battle | 4 |
Number of opponent's Pokémon at level 55 | Number x 7 |
As outlined by Magpie, the calculation to determine how many PP were used in the battle is to compare the value of PP at the end of the previous battle with the value of PP at the end of the current battle. This means that the game does not take into account the possibility that the player restored PP before the current battle. If the player ended the previous battle with 5 PP on a move, restored their PP to 10, and then ended the current battle with 3 PP, the game will calculated the PP used as (5 - 3) = 2, rather than (10 - 3) = 7.
