Black City

Access to:
North: Route 14
West: Route 15

Places of interest:
Poké Mart

This area is only accessible in Black. In White, this space is instead occupied by White Forest.

Overview

This area has between 12 and 45 inhabitants, with the size of the city reflecting the number of inhabitants. When the area is first visited, the number of inhabitants is determined by the number of days (according to the DS clock) that it took the player to reach Black City since starting the save file, with a longer time resulting in fewer inhabitants.

The player can use the Entralink to visit the White Forest location in another player's copy of White, and while there, can invite people to come to Black City to increase the population. A higher population in Black City means more Trainers for the player to battle and a greater number of merchants.

The market in this area expands its offerings based on how much progress the player has made in Black Tower. The details about which vendors and items require what amount of progress are shown below.

Population Changes

Every Trainer resident has a set number of points associated with them. The number of points associated with a Trainer can change if certain actions are performed. If the number of points reaches 0, the Trainer will leave Black City permanently, unless invited back using the aforementioned Entralink feature. The actions that can change a Trainer's point values are as follows:

Population changes
Action Point change
1 day passes -5 (all Trainers)
Player visits the area +3 (all Trainers)
Player battles Trainer +10 (just that Trainer)

Items

Market

The market is only available if there are four or more Trainers in the city. The items that are sold are dependent on which Trainers are currently in Black City.

A man at the back of the market building will give the player 10000 each time ten Trainers have been defeated (not counting Roughneck Johnny and Backpacker Kiyo).
