White Forest

Access to:
North: Route 14
West: Route 15

Places of interest:
Poké Mart

This area is only accessible in White. In Black, this space is instead occupied by Black City.

Overview

This area has between 0 and 10 inhabitants, with the amount of tall grass and water reflecting the number of inhabitants. When the area is first visited, the number of inhabitants is determined by the number of days (according to the DS clock) that it took the player to reach White Forest since starting the save file, with a longer time resulting in fewer inhabitants.

The player can use the Entralink to visit the Black City location in another player's copy of Black, and while there, can invite people to come to White Forest to increase the population. A higher population in White Forest means more wild Pokémon variety.

The market in this area expands its offerings based on how much progress the player has made in White Treehollow. The details about which vendors and items require what amount of progress are shown below.

Population Changes

Every resident has a set number of points associated with them. The number of points associated with a resident can change if certain actions are performed. If the number of points reaches 0, the resident will leave White Forest permanently, unless invited back using the aforementioned Entralink feature. The actions that can change a resident's point values are as follows:

Population changes
Action Point change
1 day passes -5 (all residents)
Player visits the area +3 (all residents)
Player talks to resident +10 (just that resident)

Pokémon

The Pokémon that can appear here are tied to specific residents of the city; if that resident leaves, the Pokémon can no longer be found. All Pokémon are level 5.

Of the residents with point values, only ten will be in one White Forest at any given time.

The encounter rates of each Pokémon are determined based on a weight system. When an encounter is generated, the game will do the following:

  1. Add up the "weight" values of all the present Pokémon (based on the residents that are present). The total will be referred to as T.
  2. Generate a random number between 0 and T (inclusive), referred to as N.
  3. Begin adding up the "weight" values of the same Pokémon, in the order indicated in the table below. The running total of this will be referred to as R.
  4. When adding a weight would cause the value of R to match or exceed the random number N, the Pokémon associated with that weight will be selected for an encounter.

Mayor's Berries

Each day, the Mayor will request to see a Pokémon that can be found in White Forest. If the player catches the specified Pokémon and shows it to the Mayor, he will give them a Berry. The player must have caught the Pokémon on the same day he asks to see the Pokémon. The Berries he can provide are shown below.
