Rental Passes

If the player does not have a connected copy of Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver to use with Battle Revolution, the player can instead choose to use a Rental Pass to engage in battles. When challenging the Gateway Colosseum, the player is required to use a Rental Pass, even if they have Pokémon from a connected DS game.

When the player starts the game, two Rental Passes are available for them to choose from: Sprout Trainer Cyndy (Red) and Novice Nate (Blue). When the player challenges the Gateway Colosseum, they have the option to select to use the other pass; completing the colosseum with the other pass will give it to the player as a permanent option.

The other four passes must be unlocked by completing other colosseums, and then the player can acquire them by winning with them in Gateway Colosseum. The passes of Beginning Trainer Tommy (Purple) and New Star Daisy (Green) are available after completing Waterfall Colosseum, and those of Rookie Joel (Gray) and Freshwoman Natalie (Yellow) are available after completing Sunny Park Colosseum.

The Pokémon on the Rental Passes always have the same Ability, moves, EVs, and held item, but their gender, Nature, and IVs are randomized. All Pokémon on Rental Passes are level 50 and cannot be leveled up. After the player has obtained two or more Rental Passes, Pokémon can be moved between obtained Passes in the Rental Pass part of the menu.

After completing Stargazer Colosseum the first time, the player can modify a Rental Pass by engaging in Trade Battles in Gateway Colosseum, which allows them to trade Pokémon from their Rental Pass with the opposing Trainers'. The traded Pokémon are kept on the Rental Pass after the challenge is completed.
