FireRed and LeafGreen Home

FireRed and LeafGreen were originally released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. They are remakes of Red and Green/Blue. The original cartridges are able to trade and battle with each other, and with the Game Boy Advance games Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, using the Game Boy Advance Link Cable or the Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter. They are also able to communicate with the Nintendo GameCube games Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness using a Game Boy Advance to GameCube Link Cable. Using the Game Boy Advance slot of an original model DS, Pokémon can be sent to Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, although they cannot be returned from these games to any Game Boy Advance or GameCube game.

The games were released again in 2026, as digital downloads on the Nintendo Switch. These versions of the games are also able to trade and battle with each other, but are unable to communicate with Colosseum, XD, and any DS Pokémon game. The Switch versions of the games will be able to send Pokémon (one-way) to the Switch/Switch 2 application Pokémon HOME, but this feature has not yet been implemented. It has been announced for October 2026.

The Switch rereleases are particularly notable in that they provide players access to the Mysticticket and Auroraticket items, allowing players to get Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys, Pokémon that are not available in the original cartridge releases without access to long-defunct event distributions or the ability to trade with Colosseum and XD.

After 26 February 2027, Pokémon from a Game Boy Advance copy of FireRed or LeafGreen will no longer be able to use Pokémon Bank to go into any 3DS or Switch game. The latest game that a Pokémon from a cartridge copy of FireRed or LeafGreen will be able to travel to is Black, White, Black 2 or White 2. However, Pokémon from the Switch rereleases of FireRed and LeafGreen will be able to go into HOME starting in October 2026.

The first 386 Pokémon in the National Pokédex are all programmed into the game. Between the two games, the player can access 150 Pokémon that are part of the Kanto Pokédex, as well as a handful of Johto and Hoenn Pokémon. In the original releases, Pokémon that are missing from these games can be traded in from Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Colosseum, or XD. In the Switch rereleases, the missing Pokémon cannot be obtained in FireRed and LeafGreen.
