Gold, Silver, and Crystal Home

Gold, Silver, and Crystal were originally released between 1999 and 2001 for the Game Boy Color. The original cartridges are able to trade and battle with each other, and with the Game Boy games Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, using the Game Boy Link Cable. They are also able to communicate with the Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Stadium 2 using the Nintendo 64 Transfer Pak.

The games were released again in 2017 and 2018, as digital downloads on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. These versions of the games are also able to trade and battle with each other, as well as the 3DS rereleases of Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, but are unable to communicate with Pokémon Stadium 2. The 3DS versions of the games are able to send Pokémon (one-way) to the 3DS application Pokémon Bank, from which they can be transferred to the 3DS games Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, and (one-way) the Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 application Pokémon HOME.

The 3DS rerelease of Crystal is particularly notable in that it provides players access to the GS Ball item, allowing players to get Celebi, a Pokémon that is not available in the original cartridge releases without access to long-defunct event distributions.

Gold, Silver, and Crystal have a total of 251 obtainable Pokémon, although some require trading with Red, Green, Blue, or Yellow to obtain.
