Black 2 and White 2 Home
Black 2 and White 2 were originally released in 2012 for the Nintendo DS, although some features are only usable if playing on a DSi or 3DS. The original cartridges are able to trade and battle with each other, and with the DS games Black and White, using the wireless capabilities of the DS. These games also introduced some extra content that could only be accessed if a save file from Black or White was connected to them. Until 14 Jan 2014, these games were able to communicate with the Pokémon Dream World via Wi-Fi connection, allowing the player to catch Pokémon otherwise unavailable in Black 2 and White 2, with their Hidden Abilities and sometimes with special moves, and obtain otherwise unavailable items. These games can also be used with the 3DS application Dream Radar to catch Pokémon with their hidden ability, as well as the Therian forms of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus, which are otherwise unobtainable.
With access to two DS systems that can communicate via local wireless, Pokémon from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and HeartGold and SoulSilver (and by extension, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen, Colosseum, XD: Gale of Darkness, Battle Revolution, and the Ranger series) can be transferred into Black 2 and White 2, although they cannot be returned to their game of origin. With access to the 3DS applications Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank, Pokémon from Black 2 and White 2 can be sent to later games, although they cannot be returned from those games or from Pokémon Bank to Black, White, Black 2, or White 2.
After 26 February 2027, Pokémon from Black 2 and White 2 will no longer be able to use Pokémon Bank to go into any 3DS or Switch game. The latest game that a Pokémon from Black 2 or White 2 will be able to travel to is Black, White, Black 2 or White 2.
The first 649 Pokémon in the National Pokédex are all programmed into the game. Between Black 2 and White 2, the player can access 297 Pokémon that are part of the Unova Pokédex, as well as a wide variety of additional Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh Pokémon after defeating the Elite Four. Pokémon that are missing from these games can be traded in from Black or White, or transferred from Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver.
